I AM LOVED

I AM LOVED

It's super easy to forget how loved we are. Here's the way I remind myself, and I'm sharing it with you because I truly hope it helps remind you too.

I was speaking to my therapist the other day, and she said "love is not understanding, love is the commitment to try to understand". This means, we aren't supposed to already understand our loved ones. We just need to put in the effort required to understand what our loved ones are trying to say, by asking questions, being patient, and considering their ideas as if they're our own.

If we take a look at our relationships, can you pick out people who try to understand us? Maybe they're not successful at understanding, but who can you say is trying? Instead of seeing them as people who don't understand us, can we look at the effort? Deep in the commitment and the decision to understand us as complicated people, is the love all of us seek.

It's easy to conclude no one loves us, because no one "gets" us. Acknowledging those who care enough to try to "get" us, will remind us of all the love around us.
